Answer:
I need to know your weight to give an accurate length for a board. Also it would help to know what type of riding you want to do freestyle, freeriding or a bit of everything as the type of riding you do affects the length of board you buy. Never listen to anyone who tells you the best was to pick a board is to use the floor to the chin method. This method is only used in rental places just to get the boards out fast and only really works if you are an average build for your height. If you email me your weight i can recommend board lengths for you for All mountain, freestyle and freeride boards. Good luck with the riding.

I like Burton's, i can't remember the original model of my snowboard, i've made too many mods too it, and it was soooo long ago. If you can go down the blue slopes without ever falling or stopping, you are an intermediate, and at 5 feet your board should be about nose level with you, so like 4'8 in length. Remember, any idiot can get down Double Black if he stops enough and just heelside slides down the mountain, it'll take him 20 minutes tho lol. To get a good judge of skill, you must attempt the hill without stopping, or if you stop, remain standing, and do not stop more than once. But honestly, your board measurements have nothing to do with your skill, unless your looking for a custom board to do extra tough specialized things, like custom jumps(this is totally the most fun snowboarding thing to do)

the board should fall between your nose and chin. if your 5 feet you should ride about a 144

im 5 foot 4 and i have a burton air which is really nice. it was like 500 dollars with bindings. its really good for both free riding and park. it might be pretty big on you but it should be perfect for next winter.

if you can go down blue (intermediate) slopes, you are an intermediate. if you can go down blacks easily then you are advanced double blacks are expert skiers but at 5 feet tall you would want a board about 4 feet 8 inches high- just up to your nose. if you are buying one, i recommend getting a burton, lamar, or factory board. those are all good boards and pretty good for beginner/intermediate. i would recommend burton over all of those, but i have a nollie blue board and i love it.
