What is the difference between true twin shaped snowboards and directional shaped snowboards?

What is the difference between men and women's snowboards?

  • I'm in the market for a snowboard - I'm a 5 foot 5 chick, 120 pounds, size 7 feet. I've been looking at the women's snowboards and find them all to be ridiculously ...show more

Who cares what your snowboard looks like? Too be honest as long as you have good edges and a smooth bottom it really doesn't matter. Why don't you go and rent see if your really serious about it and then consider buying one? You never mentioned your experience level how much you ride where you ride. Too be honest you should just buy used. I did and i'm pretty serious at it. Edit: So your either an Aussie, a Brit or a local hmmm Just go to some swap and shops then. When they burn all the old skiies and snowboards for the griz or whoever u celebrate and pray to for snow grab a board before they throw it into the fire.

Technical differences are just a little wider/little stiffer/slightly heavier, simply put. But if you know how to ride already it probably would be no big, I have a men's deck (burton custom) that the guys in the shop said was perfect for me. Since it was a short board (for men, 148. I'm 5'6 120, size 8 boot) it really wasn't much wider than a female's 148, since it was made for a smaller guy in general. No big deal just look at the weight/height range it says the rider should be for the board, factor in type of riding etc..ask the dudes in the shop that sell boards what will be a good guy's board for you.

Men's boards tend to be wider by a little than their female counterparts because men usually have bigger feet. You can use a men's board, but you may find initiating turns to be a little harder than using a woman's board. However, if you use it enough, you'll get used to it. There's nothing stopping you from buying one and using it. It just may be a little awkward at first. I agree, the graphics on female boards are usually too stereotypically bright and shouting "buy me! buy me!".

Women's boards are made for women, using feedback from female riders. If you want to get a male board that's fine, a women's board might offer you better performance.

I'm not really sure, I looked this up a while ago and I think men's boards are generally a bit heavier and stiffer and wider...I could be wrong though, this is just what I gathered from a bit of quick research. Really though, I don't think it would make that much of a difference. If a male and female are the same height and weight with the same foot size, I don't see why they couldn't use the same board no matter what gender it was geared towards. I say go for it. But, I'm also no expert..like, at all....so you might want to get more opinions.
