As you are new to snowboarding you will be looking to get an beginners entry level type board. These type of boards are usually fairly cheap anyway whatever brand you go for. Some good value boards to look into are Ride Agenda K2 Select Forum Recon Burton Clash Nitro Revolt Apo seed Atomic Hatchet If you are on a really tight budget you could get a second hand board although i dont nessesarily always think this is a great idea but a second hand board is better than no board at all . Also try to always buy from a proper snowboard shop as the boards they sell are always likely to be good whether they are cheap or not, don't buy from say a regular sports shop as they are more likely to sell poor quality products and probably wont know what they are talking about anyway. If you are planning on doing freestyle/jib riding it may be worth looking at a few jib boards like the Ride Kink etc as boards like this are usually really cheap as well but only go for one of those if you are planning on doing that type of riding.

if you're just a beginner, then seriously ANY board will be fine for what you want it to do. Unless you plan on spending the season on the mountain snowboarding everyday, then you could just buy a cheap packaged board (board, boots, binding) online/instore/eBay. As a beginner you'll probably just spend a couple weekends at the snow this season and any board on the market will withstand what your gonna use it for. So i suggest get a packaged deal, which you can get for around $300. check the link below for an idea of brands and whats on offer.

that's a tough one pal. in snowboarding you get what you pay for. if you aren't willing to put out for the most important part of your kit then you aren't really willing to ride. you could find a Capita Stairmaster for about $299. or you could get a much better Gnu Carbon Highbeam for $329 there is also the K2 Fuse for $280 or a Palmer P-Line for $299 then you could get a Rome Artifact for $350. this particular snowboard was one of the winners of Transworld's "good wood" snowboard test. so this is a high quality snowboard that is under $400. there are a lot more but this should be fine to get you started shopping. also, i suggest you subscribe to Transworld Snowboarding magazine. they provide great trick tips and professional interviews and sometimes give out free boards. they also send out buyer's guides to show you what is the best in the market and how much it is.
