Answer:
wow how long have these answerers been snowboarding? they don't know squat! think of it this way, do you thin ka snowboarding can see how tall you are? no. BUT, it can feel how much you weigh. chin-nose is how it usually works out, but check the weight range for the board (usually on the base of the board.) as for what kind.. well make sure it's womens, because women have a different center of gravity than men do, so their boards are constructed differently.

The person who answered first is right about the length of the board. If you are a beginner feel free to get a slightly shorter board, t will be easier to learn to turn on. Since you are a lighter weight person and (presumably, from your avatar) a girl you could also consider a womens specific board, they are designed for a lighter weight person to flex and give. As far as brands consider Burton and Morrow, they are decently priced and good quality. I would recommend against getting the cheapest board either of these brands offer go one or two steps up and you should be happy. I know a lot of girls (including myself) who have the Burton Feather and really like it.

I was pondering the same question a couple of months ago and finally found out. Typically, the snowboard is based off of your height, not your weight and goes by the length of the board. So, a standard snowboard should come up to your lips (generally between your chin and your nose) from the ground up. For example, I am 4'8" (really tiny I know) so I would need to get a snowboard that is approximately 128 cm, because that is where the tip of the snowboard would hit at my lips. So just measure (in centimeters) yourself from the ground up to your lips and that should be the general length of your board too. Hope this helps you out and happy snowboarding!!! :)

Good answers by Konrad and Tahoe T. Unfortunately getting the right length snowboard for you isent always as easy as it seems and the floor to the chin method isent an accurate way to pick the right length board for you. The main factors to take into account when buying a board is your weight and the type of riding you want to do, also your height and your level of riding can come into it too. I would recommend that as you are a begineer rider you should get an All mountain board. These boards are great for new riders as they can be used for all types of riding freestyle, freeriding, powder etc. I would say the sort of length you should go for is around a 150 and some boards that would suit you are K2 Skyla, Ride Vista, Burton Feather, Sapient Fluid, Salomon Lotus, Nitro Mystique. Good luck with the riding.

Snowboards depend on your height and weight. The height is typically at your nose level but for begginers it is alot easier to learn on a smaller board. Weight is also a factor. It can affect your speed. There should be a diagram on the back of your board saying what height and weight is most suitable. If not ask someone who works at the store.
