How can i get better at snowboarding?

  • I want to get better at snowboarding, I want to be more comfortable going faster and even on jumps. If I go up to my local mountain once a week (starting soon) then like 2 or 3 times ...show more

  • Answer:

There's an awesome book called "How to snowboard, instead of going to the mountain and actually snowboarding and gaining experience, you should stay home reading on tricks and stuff in the book. Not really. Nothing beats practice. You're always getting better each time you go snowboarding. You just have to go and practice, nothing else will make you better.

I think I would like to get away from everyone else whos answering. Practice is needed but it seems like your going to get a lot in this season for sure. Really what helped me and ALL of my friends who ride is riding together. Ride with a group of your close friends who are your level or a little better. Even if theyre a bit under your ability level youll progress. The point is that when you have a solid group of bros youll get pushed a hell of a lot more without even realizing. Try something you think you can do. Hell, even go for something that your a bit timid about. It helps SOO much to have friends who will get you stoked to board. Don't feel the need to get good really really fast, if your having fun itll come naturally. But what it does come down to is practice practice practice, and a solid, stoked group of good friends to ride with.

Watch videos to take note of other riders stances, to perfect your own. Practice is the best way to get better. The more your out on the mountain, the more experience you will obtain.

yes, its definitely practice. Practice will get you better. You can also read books and search on the net for some tutorials.

Practice!!!! and Good form. everyones finds there own flow but a basic good form is weight on your front foot and knees in a bent and ready postition. strap your board on and hop round your living room when you can't go ride learn exactly what a tail and nose press feel like right on you rug at home. the more comfortable you are on the board the faster you'll progess so Practice!! i found when i started instructing snowboarding a couple years ago just riding with a larger group than i was use to help push you a bit too if you make it like a game have everyone try the same trick and see who is best or race. a lil competition is always good motivation. you'll def get better by march but most of all just have fun. that's what it's about

Enough of these long answers with great detail. The answer is quite simple and to the point. Be totally CONFIDENT with your riding and you'll progress naturally!

Yes, practice is important and you will get better if you spend more time on the snow, but if your technique is poor, you are just going to be enforcing bad form. The single most important thing to do is to have lessons. I've been boarding for many years, but I still have lessons at least twice a season.... just remember, no matter how good you become, there is always something to learn. Lessons are most important when you are starting, but what most people don't realise is that as you improve, you need to change your technique. From 'falling leaf', to 'J-turns', to 'carving' and 'down un-weighted'. Lastly, remember how lucky you are.... most people only get on the slopes for two weeks a year, so enjoy your time and good luck :)

you need to put in the hours plain and simple having a teacher helps for sure but a lot of learning is just putting in the hours getting some pointers from teachers is alright but you could probably get those online watch snowboard movies and pay attention dont get caught up in the big air, watch their legs and arms you will go where your arms and upper body point keep those knees bent! stay loose and enjoy
