What's a good snowboard to buy?

Whats a good snowboarding company?

  • I just learned how to snowboard and I want to buy a board and bindings and boots and I'm wondering what are some good companies to stick with? Also whats a good semi cheap set up?

  • Answer:

Don't go with burton! if you want to save money... There are plenty of good companies out there that make better gear for less money. Don't get burton, just to get burton and you think you look cool because your all decked out in burton gear. They're GOOD but theyre NOT the best. Other companies include: Lib-tech Gnu Neversummer Capita K2 Solamon Lib-tech and Gnu are the new popular companies this year, they have a great selection of high-end board. If your looking to save money i would go with a K2, good quality and a good price.

Burton is the best in my opinon. My favorite board is the burton custom. But it is very expensive.

Everyone will say Burton. Somewhat overpriced over the other companies but their gear is quite nice (especially the bindings). Flow makes good bindings but they're really expensive, Union bindings are a better value. Lots of good boards out there. K2 (I don't like them though, all their stuff isn't very good quality), GNU, LTD, and Libtech, etc. Lamar and Sims are my favourite. Watch out for the ski companies (Elan, Atomic) and skate companies (DC, Quiksilver). They don't have a lot of experience making boards. As for the setup, I would go for Union Cadets ($100-$120) and for the board, Lamar Cruiser ($100-$200). Burton boots keep your feet warm. I recommend the Tribute ($70-$100).

Burton is a good company don't get me wrong, but you are going to pay alot more for a burton set up then you would for a full setup from from another company who is going to give you a product just as good but for less cost. Some great beginner to intermediate snowboards. Your going to want to get a board that is more forgiving, and will allow your riding to progress. Buy snowboards that are softer and they will make learning to turn easier. And the good thing is is that most entry level to mid-ranged priced snowboards have a softer flex, so you wont have to break the bank to get a snowboard. Also figure if you want to ride park or all mountain. That will make your decision alot easier. Some Companies you may want to consider as an alternative to burton are: Nitro Forum( The forum recon is an amazing all mountain board that is a perennial favorite) Ride K2 Stepchild Rome(The owners are former designers at burton that build great boards) Visit your local shop and talk to an employee to make sure you get the best board possible!

Good companies are Roxy, Burton, K2, and 5150. They are always top quality. You can find a cheap set up (with sweet brands) at the end of the season. In February/March head out to the stores at the ski hills and regular sports stores like SportMart and SportChek and EVERYTHING is on sale. I got all my stuff that way.
