Answer:
1.The difference between ice skating and figure skating is skating is... well there really isn't a difference at all! 2. To get started go to your local rink and ask someone for information on how to sign up for lessons. 3.When you first start lessons, you need skates with skate guards(obviously) and eagerness to learn. You don't need anything fancy. 4.If you really love the sport, then you should give it a try. Be prepared to fall a lot when you are first starting. It's all a part of figure skating, but you will get used to it. :-) 5.Some people do competitions, and other don't. You can do competitions if you want to, or you can just skate for fun. Just start your lessons first and once you progress, you can talk to your coach if you are interested in competitions. Nobody is to old for figure skating! Its really a great sport, so don't let your age hold you back! Don't worry about wearing anything fancy when you are first starting. Sweat pants and a swear shirt is fine. Good Luck! :-)

hi! q's r answered in order :) - well "ice" skating is more like recreational or you do it just for fun, figure skating is jumps, spins, footwork, spiral and all of the glitz and glam that comes with being a deticated skater. we r very serious about it, enter competitions, have a private coach. - to get started fine a local rink near your house call them or go to their website if they have one, and ask if they have a "Learn- to- Skate" proggram for begginners, go to the rink and sign up at the lowest level (like basic 1 or Pre- Alpha) rent skates until you really think you r going to stick w/ it then (the fun part) buy your own skates, i would suggest the Blue Ribbon Model by Riedell http://www.riedellskates.com/ice/121.html this is a really great skate that will last you until you reach Freestyle 2 or 3, don't be tricked into buying a cheap skate because they will fall of your feet and won't give u the support u need. Go 2 practice in sweat pants not jeans, because when u fall they will soak up alot of water! Make sure you wear gloves! - you should definately do it! It's so fun and rewarding at the same time, sure it can be frustrating at times, but once you get the hang of it, it's the most amazing sport ever :D - figure skaters usually do competitions, but only when they have mastered some basic skills, competetions are expensive, and require a lot of hard work a detication and you'll probably need a private coach for those. You're never 2 old to skate their is a 50 yr. old women at my rink and she's still taking classes! Go into class w/ an open mind, not to be the next Michelle or Sasha. Hope u do skating! if u have any more q's u can e-mail me! :)

The only relevant question for you right now is 2). Go to your local rink, have a try, and sign up for some group lessons. if you enjoy it. It will be months if not years before you need to worry about competitions or what to wear.
