What does it mean to break in ice skates?

to get used to your skates. it takes time for your feet to actually mold to the boot and for you to not get blisters or anything. basically after you break them in, they become more comfortable. they take about a 2 weeks for me to break in completely

It's the process to get new skates adjusted to your feet by skating in them. For me, my skates aren't high enough level for my skating abilities,(they're rated for single jumps and I'm doing all my doubles) even when I got them (long story, but the owner of the pro shop was playing the Used Car Salesman here...), so I broke them in within two hours of skating, approximately. For higher level skaters, generally skates will be broken in faster because of what elements they're doing. While breaking skates in, some people's feet hurt and they get blisters because their skates haven't molded to their feet yet, but that's part of the process. Hope this helps!
