Model United Nations: What should I know before applying for HMUN?

What you really need to know damn well is how to MUN. That's short for a great procedural knowledge, well-honed research skills, how to debate, what to speak, how to bluff, great resolution writing ability and a plethora of other skills and tactics. Unfortunately, while some may sound simple, the only proper way to build up these skills to an HMUN level is through lots and lots of practice, and lots and lots of experience. However, while it may sound daunting do get this, it is unlikely that you will get a good country or one with some relevance to your topic if this is one of your first MUNs. You will probably also not get a chance to speak. So HMUN can be a great experience to pick up the basics of many skills, as some of the world's best MUNners will be participating. That said, it can get boring and irritating. Just hang in there and try to learn, make new  friends and enjoy!
