  • Answer:

Just start skating. Sheesh. If by "amazing" you mean like the skaters you see on TV, at Nationals/Worlds/Olympics etc, then you've got a rude shock coming. No amount of pre-training or anything like that will get you to that level now. It's gone for you. The inline skates are unneccessary, and even though they are a similar style of movement, they will not automatically make you a good skater. The only way to get any good at figure skating is to skate on the ice!

If I were you, I'd go for it. That's what I did. You WON'T be learning jumps soon, AT ALL. Sorry. But don't bother with the ballet etc. It will just cost more money. If you want to improve your posture, just stretch daily for now. Inline skating is quite useful to get your balance on the ice initially, but to be honest with figure skating it won't help that much. The thing is, sorry, but you won't be going to the Olympics. That's the harsh truth. Don't let that get you down though - there's a good chance that with some dedication you could be competing at high level competitions. And hey, I know I just said you won't be going into any international competitions, but don't rule it off. Don't get hopeful, but there has to be a first time for everything, right? Don't let anyone dash your dreams (: For now, take it slow. If you are impatiently waiting to begin jumps, don't bother. Skating is HARD and requires patience. Work your way steadily up to the top. Don't worry, you'll get there. As for skates, amazing professional ones cost a fortune. But don't even think about them for now. You'll only grow out of them before you actually need them. Buy some standard white figure skates, priced (I'm English, so they are in pounds, but they can't be much different in America) around £40. And practice. Good luck.

Honestly, I do not know how much of an impact roller blading will have on your skating, so I think that you should just get into skating as soon as possible. Whenever you start you would still have not had any skating experience, so now is as good a time as ever. It is really fun and you should look into doing it in the summer. The yoga and ballet will help with balance, posture, grace, flexibility, and strength, but these won't benefit you until you know how to skate. In my opinion, you should learn how to skate and gain some skating skill because actually skating is the best way to improve your skating. You have an opportunity to become a good figure skater if you dedicate your time and effort, and you really really want it. Of course you will never go to the Olympics or national level, but you will be able to compete in higher level competitions. Have fun! :)

okay well if by "amazing" you mean going to the olympics than no you wont be amazing. hopefully you will make double jumps, you may not even make axel (one and a half rotations). skaters start at age 2-3 and 5-6 oldest if they are going to the olympics. you need to nail the jumps. the sooner the better. yes, you can skate and be really good but youre never getting to the olympics that late into the game. its harsh but its the truth. you dont need ballet or any inline skating to start figure skating. inline skating and figure skating are TOTALLY different. oh and if you arent planning on spending, eventually, $500-$700 a month than dont skate. youll be even more heartbroken if you have to quit because of finances. also if you think youre just going to jump on the ice and in a month be doing doubles like in the movie ice princess then you need a reality check. itll be a good year, most likely longer since your older before you even start axels sorry, thats kind of harsh but thats the truth. skates can cost up to $800-$1000 with the blades and its one of the hardest sports out there.
