Balance between figure skating, swimming, and school?

Any suggestions for keeping school, and swimming balanced and being able to figure skate also? I love figure skating, but now that school is starting and I'm finally ready to ...show more

Come back to skating slowly. You haven't lost as much as you might think. School has to be your priority and you must keep your grades up so figure out how to put everything else under that. Use the swim team time to really get yourself in to really great shape so that as your skating skills all start to come back you will have less endurance problems. But don't rush skating. While your skill aren't gone they are likely to be rusty. Don't beat yourself up just allow yourself the time to come back. Even if that is one class at a time for the year. Good luck. You are tough and you can do this.

School should definitely be at the top of your list. As you are in high school, this is a crucial time to strive to do your best - especially if you have plans to go to college and aspire to have a career. Do not sacrifice your education! Sounds like you may already be committed to swimming? Swimming is good cross training for skating anyway . . . use it as a stepping stone to get back into skating. Depending on how much TIME you have left after you finish your studies (remember, no comprising on education), and how much ENERGY you have left from swimming, see where skating can fit in the picture. As toonew2two mentioned, you should ease back into skating anyway. Maybe you can go for weekend freestyles for now so it doesn't interrupt your weekday school/swim schedule (you know weekend public is going to be a madhouse). Play it by ear. If you do too much too soon, you may end up too tired to even focus on skating - and possibly reinjure yourself. In fact, you may get too pooped to study, swim, and skate - you don't want to spread yourself out too thin. Take it one step at a time so you know your limits . . . perhaps as school goes on you'll find a way to handle all three. Best of luck, icesk8er!! You sound so athletic!

You should stick with the one you love most. An injury should not sway you for not figure skating. You should also consider which one you do better in, as in, which one do you have the most awards in. If you're doing triples by now, then you should stick with skating. For swimming, you should try to get a private coach to train you.

you have to get your priorities straight. Which do you want the most? You certainly cant have them all. You have to decide which one your willing to spend time on and which one your willing to sacrifice some time on. Its damned near impossible to balance all these activities equally. If you want my opinion i would say focus on school work above all, but go to most of your swim meets and practices. Leave skating for leisure time on weekends or something
