  • Answer:

When I was learning my loop, a trick that my coach taught me was to have your head be looking the direction that you want to go. So, have your head be looking back. It helped me get the full rotation. Good luck! :-)

The trick is really in the knees. Over time you need to get into your knees and push off, maybe work on your leg muscles to further improve. Your arm swing is also important, make sure you have them in position then swing up and around propelling yourself into the air. Also remember to push off the toe pick on the take off, and remember that you will turn slightly to jump and that you do not take off completely backwards. (Common misconception.) Also, you have been given false information by someone who likely isn't well informed on the sport, many elite skaters do a loop from 3 turns, sometimes running 3s. Enter however you feel comfortable, the 3 turn just gives a little boost like the other jumps which have some sort of turn before hand. I honestly have trouble with the gliding entrance myself. Practice off ice, it helps tremendously.

I have just got the hang of it now and what i have found useful is: -Make sure your foot is crossed over your other foot, toe facing down like the back spin before even jumping of the ground. -Make sure your body stay in the same position and doesnt twist.Just because your rotating doesn't mean your upper body has to!lol Hope this helps and have fun!=D

You can do a loop from either an inside 3 turn or back crossovers. I started off with a 3 turn, but if you're competing at qualifying competitions, you should do it from back crossovers. No elite skaters do it from a 3 turn. Anyway, just pull your arms in tight and cross your feet tight until you have the jump consistently. Then you can loosen up your position a bit. Make sure you stand up straight too. Do walk throughs of the jump both on and off the ice. Do plenty of back spins to get the leg position as well. It will come, and once you do it, you'll think it was really easy! Good luck and I hope I helped
