Have you got any ice skating tips?

Any tips on ice skating for someone who has never ice skated?

  • I need ice skating tips/hints. I have never gone before. Please list any clothing, stopping tips, how to fall and where to fall, ect.

  • Answer:

Since others already gave the must for dressing in a skating rink, I will just add that you should avoid bringing anything that can drop and trip you or someone else while you are on the ice, particular cell phone and camera (Not only do they hurt, they distract you and can seriously make your wallet cry when they break). Lace your skate on the way up, cause you need to support you ankle, and you don't want to trip on the shoe lace. If you fall, fall forward with your hand on the ground and not backward. Stand on the ice first while one hand on the railing. Get up immediately after you fall (cause not everyone can dodge you, and you risk getting body slam :D Well, not really, but you get the point.), and try not to lean too much on your friends (cause you may end up body slamming your friends), and you should be fine.

hey, the best thing you can do is wear trousers (duh!) jeans are fine as longg as you wipe the ice of if you fall. gloves, a must and a warm coat / jacket. a good way to stop is either turn your feet out or place your dominant foot infront of the other length ways (if u get my drift). as for where to fall a good idea is on ur knees (...or not at all) but if you feel your gonna go backwords try to swerv onto your side and land with your arm under your body , because it keeps you from getting wet and slamming onto the ice... have a good time.

If this is your first time skating, you probably want to wear warm clothes that you can easily move in. If you are just going to a public skating session and you aren't doing anything else but going around the rink, than it's not as critical to wear flexible clothes. i guess you could wear jeans, but I prefer yoga pants or sweats. If you are going for a lesson, definately wear gloves ( mittens are harder to work with).Hope I helped

Wear comfortable and warm clothing, like sweats. Wear gloves if you want so your hands don't freeze. Keep your knees bent, if you stand up straight you'll lose your balance. The snow plow stop is easiest for beginners, you point the toes of your skates towards each other like this /\, and you will slowly come to a stop. Try to fall forwards instead of backwards. You won't hit the back of your head which kills that way. You'll probably want to stay close to the boards so it can help with your balance and keep you from falling.

if you are using hockey skates then its going to be harder. Try to use the figure skates. Dress warm it is going to be cold and try to wear gloves so when you fall you can get up without making your hands cold. try to fall on your but also away from people.
