How long does it take to break into new skates?

  • I bought new Riedell Gold Medallion skates, and I was wondering how long it would take to break into them. I walk around the house with them on, knowing it'll help with the "breaking" ...show more

  • Answer:

first of all well done buying Riedell i have Riedell competition the strongest ones Riedells are brilliant skates hence take a little longer to break in. but i advise my pupils to leave the first hook undone for a couple of weeks as you need the extra help with bending but make sure you do up to the top of the boot for the ankle support. you are doing it correct by walking around at home in them the more you can do this the softer the leather will get also do some squats in the boots and squeeze the top of the boots together with your hands and pull the top of the boots out to soften the leather the more you skate in the the quicker you will break them in. with hours a week will take some time to break in maybe about 4-6 weeks.

it takes me about 2-3 days, i skate about 2-3hrs a day and i have grafs

i'd say maybe a week or two if you walk with them around the house. it usually took me 2 days to break in my skates, but i have Risports so they are the easiest to break. don't attempt to jump on the first day. do ankle bending things that will stretch them *crossovers *sit-spins forward/back *moves are always good *i don't know what level you are on, but i might try single jumps because I'm doing doubles and triples, so if you are doing low doubles, just do low singles, and if you are doing singles, do low singles like waltz jumps. *and just bend them all the time you have them on. i always leave the bottom hook undone. or i tie them like this: if the skate rings are numbered 1234 (one being the bottom, and 4 being the top) i lace 2 and 4 going up, then go back down to 3 and 1. if that doesnt make sense then email me and i'll send u a diagram. oh my!

well it takes a while depending on how many hour and day you train. it might take you a month but you have to skate alittle more. i forgot how long it took me but i skated like 4 hours a week so it adds up to about 4 hours more than you. watch ice princess i think it says it around the end.

It really depends on how long you skate and how much you wear them around the house, the more you wear them the quicker you'll break them in. If you wear them around the house and skate for 3 hours a week I would say it will take about 5-7 weeks. If you skate a little bit more a week then it could only take about 4 weeks. Good luck!!
