-
I want to learn how to do the layback spin but my back is not very flexible. Is there a way to increase my back's flexibility?
-
Answer:
work on pushing ur hips in and doing the hand position. bridges on the wall and the ground also help a lot with the whole flexibility thing. hope u get the spin!!!! ;)

I would just keep practicing arching your back for the layback -- I know, sounds too simple. When you're at the rink "lay back" over the wall so you have something supporting your back and stretch as far back as you can. Also work on back bends/bridges and arching in your spiral position. When doing your layback, don't forget to push your hips forward to balance you out. Stand at the wall and push both hips flat up against the wall, then arch back. If you're doing a regular layback, the front of your thigh on your free leg should also be flat against the wall with your foot turned out. It's kind of an awkward position, but once you get it, you'll feel how it balances you out and makes it easier to layback farther.

i had to do physio after i compacted my spine, I was given exercises to streangthen my back and to make it more supple. the key is in your core, this is the area between your back and your stomach. lie on your stomach and arche your back to lift your head off the ground, lie on your back and roll your legs from side to side. actually scrub this, go and get a book on yoga and it will tell you all sorts of excersises that will help you. good luck

Do backbends off ice and just keep practicing your layback. Just by practicing it regularly you should become more flexible.

I am sure you have heard of the "bridge" Do it every day and sit in it for 15 minutes at a time and also have someone take your legs while you lay on your stomach and pull them straight to your head.

Do yoga. The bridge possition really will help.

Yes, bridge helps a lot and anything to that efect. Just do things that will stretch out your back.

Strech at least 3-5 days a week or every time before and after you skate. Do the "bridge", spiral, Beillman, catch-foot spirals (donut etc.) and just the basic layback position. Also another reason why people cant get it easly is becasue they are not pushing their hips forward.
