    As a beginner, renting is a good idea. Many (urban) ski shops will offer a season rental, although it may be too late in the season to rent them (sold out). the value of renting is that the equipment is expensive. If you ski a lot and advance quickly, the skis you buy today you won't want in 2 years. On the other side, if you end up not skiing much, then you haven't sunk a wad of cash into the equipment.
