    Well I'd look at it from a standpoint of how much you invested for the lift ticket. Preferrably... the more you paid for the lift ticket, the less crowded it hopefully will be or the better the snow is... or the closer to the holiday season it is. If you didn't pay anything for the lift ticket, who cares that there are lift lines. I like to think of the bumper sticker and license plate frame I've seen over the years: A Bad Day Skiing is Better Than a Good Day at Work. Many ski areas have at least one day each season to promote and make getting into the sport very inexpensive. Perhaps they even have free or heavily discounted group lessons. Heck, if you weren't going to have a good first day, at least it wouldn't be hard on your wallet.
