When does the alpine skiing start?

How much time will it take to learn normally alpine skiing?

    You'll be sliding downhill relatively quickly especially if you take lessons. I highly recommend lessons, don't learn from your friends unless they are ski instructors, and don't go on intermediate or expert trails until you are ready. It takes several lessons and lots and lots of practice to learn alpine skiing and do it well. Skiing downhill is a little different than cross country, you have to get used to the feel of speed going down the hill. Turning helps you maintain control of your speed and skis. I was an aggressive beginner, I took only about 4 lessons, read books and watched videos, and practiced skiing all day, from the first chair to the last, and it still took me more than 1 season to feel comfortable skiing. And I went every weekend from January until late March. I advanced from beginner to intermediate slopes that first season but it was more desire than ability at the time. But go for it, I was 30 when I started, and I hope to still be skiing when I'm 90!

With a qualified experienced professional experience a couple of days will get you sliding on the beginner hills. It then will depend on fast you can retrain your muscle memory for Alpine skiing vs X country. I teach beginning adults and usually have them riding the chair in a couple of hours if they have reasonable physical skills and conditioning. Check with the local resorts for a beginner package of 3 days of lift tickets and rentals and about 6 hours of lessons. This is usually for never skied or boarded before types.
