Are twin tip ski's slower?

Dad says that they have to buy slalom skis instead of twin-tip skis?

    Man o man. I dislike the twin tips so much, but even worse are slalom skis for beginners or even advanced intermediates. The twin tip is fine IF you are reasonably skilled, the slalom ski is as bad. For your first pair try to get a good all mountain ski that has a rail or system binding these will let you learn how to ski and to balance on the ski properly. In most cases, the only time you need a twin tip is for skiing switch in soft snow or crud, the rest of the time, the all mountain can ski switch and you can learn. The other advantage is they are more durable than most others. A slalom ski is designed to turn down the fall line like in bumps, TT are for Park and Fall and switch. All mountain is stronger and more versatile and will let you out of the Park.

If you don't ski switch you don't need twin tips. They look cooler, but essentially, if you have them and don't ride freestyle, you are a big fat poser. They are also not safer. No one ski is "safer" than another. Good skiing makes you safe....that's it. Slalom skis would also a bad idea if you are a recreational skier. These take much more skill to use and are good for groomed slopes with packed snow. They are made for racing and technical skiing, not all-around use. Get a pair of intermediate rated all-mountain skis.

if you have never skied before or owned skis before your dad might be right that you should have non-twin tip skis, that way you will learn the basics of skiing before you try and do fancy stuff which might get you hurt.
