If you are going to spend your hard earned dollars you might as well get something nice, otherwise rent. I think for your height you should get skis about 154 to 165cm, depending on the manufacturer. The lengths differ a little between brands. You are 180.3cm tall yourself. I think a 170cm may be a little too much for a beginner. My nephew, about 5'10" started with Rossignol skis, 162cm and he wasn't comfortable with them, he went down to a 149cm on K2, which is about the same as a 155cm Atomic ski. The skis should come up to about your chin level, between your nose and chin is a good place to start. Check out the Atomic Cloud 7's. They are really forgiving, and reasonably priced at around $299. When you get to the intermediate and advanced level they'll easily handle that too. A really good ski for the price, a couple of years ago they got Ski Magazine's Gold Medal award. Another good ski for beginners that you easily won't outgrow is the K2 Supersmooth. I've always liked Dynastar, Rossignol and Fischer skis too. Check out what your local shop has. For boots you really need to get fitted by a good boot fitter, take your time, try several different brands, get the ones that fit the best and you are most comfortable with. Buy them from a reputable ski shop, make sure you can take them back for adjustments if there are any problems. Ski boots are tricky, they feel totally different on the mountain in the cold than in the warm ski shop. Bring a pair of ski socks for the fitting, thin wool socks are best.

Well your about like me tall and fairly heavy! I have dalbello 65 boots and got them for like 75 bucks and a good boot for anyone. If your a beginner you would usually want shorter skis, but I have 170s which are jut about to the top of my head. My skis are k2 amp Stryker 2012, there good all mountain skis and can take on powder, ice, you name it. They were 175 with bindings but you probly won't find that good of a deal. ( more like 225 or so) before you buy I suggest going online and looking at what rocker is,twin tips or not. Hope his helps, definitely do some research online before buying! Some good brands are k2, surface, salomon almost any ski is good. Good luck!

As a beginner you do not have to spend too much money on a top notch skis. As your skiing improves then you might need to get a better pair of skis. There is such a thing as having "too much of a ski" it means that if you would get a pair of racing skis or even skis step below racing they would be less forgiving to any mistakes you make, and resulting in more falls. Concerning the ski length the ski if you stand next to it should end somewhere between your chin and nose. In general shorter skis are easier to turn on, but longer skis go a little bit faster. Make sure that you buy the right size ski boots that fit perfectly - I would strongly recommend to go to a local ski shop and have boots fitted by someone who worked there for decades than getting them in a big box store and searching an advice from a seasonal part-time associate. You do not have to worry too much about the ski brand. If you want something nicer on the cheaper side, I would recommend looking at last year model / new equipment. If you are on the budget, I would try to buy some decent rentals or demo equipment that is just slightly used, but highly discounted.
