How to do a rail on skis?

  • HI, i am an free skier, i can do lots of things in the air, but i have trouble doing rails. Any tips???

    I love freestyle, too. The way to do rails is to go off of the start jump, and do a 90-degree turn so that your skis are sideways on the rail. As other posters have said, practice makes perfect. You want to keep making the jump onto the rail more precise. In the off-season, i would put your boots on (preferably in an air-conditioned area) , and practice doing the 90-degree jump/turn onto the rail. Remember: Keep your skis on the center of balance (where they will balance evenly on the rail) so that you can ride it all the way down. Dont worry; I had a very hard time doing this the first time. You just need a while to get the hang of it. Hope this helps. Rip it up!

You just have to find the sweet spot. it's not something you have time to think about. Practice until it becomes second nature. But first you have to find that sweet spot

yeah its really easy but its all about confidence and going for it 100%, if you go half way and wimp out thats when you get hurt......first approach the rail with your skis shoulder with apart(when you are first learning) then as you aproach the kicker ramp bend your knees and visualize the 90 degree turn ,,,,next jump and land perfectly flat and perpendicular not leaning back or forward and when you go to land if it is not too high just slide off.................good luck and hav fun
