Answer:
Go to the slopes and take the lessons from the ski school. DO NOT TAKE THEM FROM YOUR BOYFRIEND, if you want to stay with him. Since you are their guest, they should foot the expenses except for your outdoor clothing. Rentals for the skiis and boots and lessons and lift ticket, should be theirs. Be certain the boots fit tight, they are sponge rubber inside and compress quickly, so they get loose. You can not ski in loose boots. When you go to the ski school, everyone else is also a beginner, make new friends in the class, skiing is a social sport as much as it's a snow sport. Take a swimsuit for the hot tub, dancing shoes for the night life, and a camera for the memories. You will need warm hat, gloves, and water repellant pants and jacket. Try the thrift stores for these items so the expense will be less. As a beginner, do not try to look like a fashion model. Have fun.

i find it most presumptious to assume that if you've been invited that they pay the bill. yeah, they might, but dont go in with that as a given. the world doesnt work that way. if you like the guy enough then does it really matter? do you want to be a part of his life? if yes then maybe go so when things progress in the relationship you will have 1 more thing in common, skiing. I told myself at 12 YO that I would never marry anyone that couldnt ski. I did marry a great skiier ( i can still kick his ^$$) if you are worried about the money or being embarrased in front of strangers and not your boyfriend then i wonder what your true motives are. if you hate the sport are you really screwed or just out some cash? you're only screwed if you get in a fight with the guy and have to endure the rest of the trip.

well, the best thing about ski schools is meeting people, for me.

Haha well first of all, you should go. Its really fun. Everyone has to eventually learn. So might as well go. I do admit, it might be slightly expensive for those who have never gone before. But im sure you can go at least once. You dont really need to go to a ski school. Im pretty sure your boyfriend would be happy to teach you. im a instructor and i tell you its not embarrasing to take lessons. I deal with many new comming people and when they leave, there all talking and laughing. Its a really good thing to try out. if you have any question, just go ahead and e-mail me.
