Answer:
K2 Stinger or K2 Force would be the K2 skis I'd set you up with. You ski the Poconos. I'm guessing Big Boulder, Jack Frost, Camelback, and Blue Mountain mostly. Off-trail at these places means about 30-40 yards into the woods..if you're lucky to have enough snow. 99% of the terrain will be a granular or packed base. What you want is a narrow ski that will cut through the hard pack snow. The wider the ski, the more you have to lean into the turn to engage the edge. You don't need anything more than 80mm wide in PA. It's just too much work to engage the edges. These are also Twin Tipped if you want something that will do well in the parks. If you don't like the K2s I suggested, look for something with similar specifications. There's probably about 95 different skis from 20 companies that will suit your needs. You probably need a ski around 185cm in length. Oh yeah...K2 stopped making the Silencer last year. It's 85mm wide. It's a good ski, but harder to work on the PA snow. That's about as wide as I'd ever buy. My K2 Work Stix are 90mm wide and way too fat for PA snow. They are great when the snow is soft, but a bee-otch to push on the hardpack.

Go to a ski shop and buy the gear guide from this season. This is a annual feature of most of the ski magazines. You will have a very good evaluation of this seasons equipment. Unless you intend to ski 10 or more times this season, you are probably better off financially to get a season rental of a good pair of skis and boots. Let the shop personnel guide you through the equipment choices and why. Try to do this at a ski specialty shop not one of the big chains.

Ok I could write you about 5 paragraphs about what kind of skis you should get and why, but I think that it would be better for you if you go to backcountry.com. This website carries a huge selection of skis and bindings, and if you click on the chat now link on their page you'll be able to talk with a gear expert online, and they can reccomend a skiing package for you (boots, skis, bindings etc.) based on your skiing ability, skiing type, budget and whatever other specifications you have. They also have the best return system in the world, go check em out its worth it i promise.
