Answer:
You are about 185 cm tall so the current trend is about to your eyes or the top of your head for the maximum length. The exception is for twin tips or powder skis. Twin tips ski short for their length and powder skis are softer flex patterns that need to be a little longer. A pair of 180 cm all mountain skis in a medium flex will probably be your best choice unless you are a terrain Park and Fall type who wants the jumps and riding switch. Ask at the local professional ski shop and some of the more experienced skiers near you what they suggest. Forget about any specific brand until you have had a chance to Demo them. Remember that how a pair of skis is tuned makes a big difference in how they perform. This is not just wax but how the edges are sharpened and the bevel on the tip and tail for ease of turn initiation and the side bevel for hold on the firmer snow. All of the top brands have a good assortment of versatile and responsive skis for just about every use. My personal skis are K2 and the model I use for teaching will ski just about everything on the mountain except moguls and really deep powder (+3 feet) The bumps are my problem, the deep snow is for another pair a little wider. All in all a pair of all mountain K2 Apache Recons about 170-180 cm should give you a pair of skis for several years and teach you a lot as you use them. As a second choice the Crossfire might be considered.

I'd seriously suggest checking various ski manufacturer's websites. You can find information on the models in their line and then choose skis appropriate for your ability. My personal preferences with over 50 years of skiing are "All Mountain Skis" because they are versatile enough to enjoy in the widest variety of terrain and snow conditions. As far as selecting a ski length, the manufacturers' websites also often offer resources that will enable you to assign a "point value" to a variety of factors such as your age, height, weight, skiing ability, the terrain you generally ski, how often you ski and that like. Once you have a total point value, transfer that information along with the kind of ski (and perhaps the specific model you are interested in) and you will be able to determine what ski length to consider. I used the manufacturer's website resources in selecting the skis I'm using now.

It also depends on your weight. If you weigh about 180 lbs. I would go with 190's. If you weigh a lot less, maybe go with 180's, If you weigh a lot more, go with at least 200's. In any case talk to the sport store guy before you buy your ski's. He should know something about it.
