Answer:
**** no they are not necessary. i am a snowboarder. the only time i wear goggles is when it is snowing. even on the windiest day you will just have to squint a little going down the hill, but since you are wearing glasses this wont be a problem. unless it is snowing you will be absolutley fine.

Unless it's snowing or highly windy I always wear sunglasses. They should be polarized and protect you from the UV rays like sunblock. Goggles are only necessary for subpar, snowy weather.

dude to me these lot dont ski or snowboard i was born and raise to do both but the answer is a yes but you can wear glasses which you can by from any cheap store what cost $2 and yes can get snow blindness is when the sun reflects from the sun which basically sun tans your eyes and then blinds you for days or weeks or even years so that a warning and any old glasses will do i mean sun glasses not reading glasses
I've gone skiing plenty of times without goggles or sunnies. Granted I've usually gone when it's cloudy or at night time, but as long as it's not snowing you'll be okay.

I agree totally with Ben. My goggles don't come out unless it is actually snowing. Sunglasses are fine. Inexpensive ones will work just as well as pricey ones. If you were and expert skier and planned to be skiing very fast, then goggles might be something to consider. It sounds as though you are a novice or casual skier, so my guess is you won't be speeding down the slopes at high velocity. Therefore, sunglasses are fine. If you get to the resort and find you need goggles. "Borrow" a pair from the lost and found box. Why spend the money on something you'll not use again for a while?

Well, last year i went to blue mountain (it's in ontario, i know) and i forgot my goggles for the first time ever. I thought whatever it'll do. so on my first run, my upper cheeks were so cold, and my cheeks and eyes were getting snow pellets whipped on them! It was horrible! so here's a tip, don't ever underestimate the power of any ski or snowboard equipment. Us people who practice snow sports are minimalists, so everything we have is extremely important. I've been skiing since i was two years old, take it from me, I've done it all:P

Yes Ski goggles are neccesary! Goggles are tool to protect our eyes on wind etc. I know a site that had a good quality of goggles like Bolle but it cost cheap. You can search on this site.
