correct me if I am wrong, but you aren't even required to wear a helmet in parts of the US when riding a motorcycle. how are you possibly going to make a law to wear one when skiing. besides that's very paternalistic - people need to be able to make a choice on these questions, not have it forced upon them.

No. There are plenty of deaths each year because of ski accidents, you just don't hear about them because apparently the lives of the average person aren't as important as celebrities. Though this should scare a lot of people in recognizing the dangers of skiing and how important it is to wear a helmet.

I had a friend who ended up breaking his neck ( literally) while water skiing, should the current trend continue , I would imagine that neck braces will be mandatory next. The individual must bear some responsibility, and accidents when and if they do happen cannot be legislated out of existence.

I think so you can pick up speed pretty fast going down hill. A neighbor of mine her brother was injured like that and was in the hospital 2 or 3 months for a brain injury. If he had being wearing a helmet he would probably walked away with minor injuries.

yes. I was very ignorant to the fact that something so small could cause this. I fell down a couple years ago while racing my friend. I fell and hit my head on pavement very hard. My side seemed a tiny bit swollen and it hurt, but I didn't think it was a big deal. THANK GOD nothing happened! I guess I'm lucky..
