Answer:
My advice is definitely go to college but not for paranormal investigation. My other is don't join an investigation unit. They lose sight of what is important during a haunt. At first your goal becomes proving that its real, that's why you start and then you realize all you do is try to prove that its fake. Your just not getting enough evidence to support these theories. The better option is to learn a way to help someone during a haunt. Perhaps learn some healing techniques for the energy around you or learn how to help a spirit go to the light. The most important thing for a person experiencing a haunt is for it to stop. They are not looking for proof and the last thing they want is someone else telling them it is not real when they are living it. It is better to try to help someone in these situations like that. Science won't believe in the afterlife for a long time yet.

Good news, there are no requirements to be a paranormal investigator/researcher.Definitely go to college, choose something to do for a living. That will help support your paranormal hobby.Take some Psychology and Anthropology courses. They will help you understand why people believe in superstition.

Actually, it's definitely not a profession, Most paranormal investigators, including myself are blue collar. It's a hobby. A hobby that requires you do a lot of work and can be costly. Most paranormal investigators are lucky to come out even, and none charge for their services. The equipment can be costly, and gas to get to locations as well. This is why it's nearly impossible to not lose money. Unless you are a TV Ghost Hunter, which are only the tiniest fraction of ghost hunters out there. There is, as other answerers have said before, a parapsychology degree. Here is a description of the career paths which that degree can lead you into: http://www.coventry.ac.uk/courses/all-courses-by-subject/psychology/a/4639 Hope that helps!

WOW you have a lot of great tips to choose from. I am a paranormal investigator and how I started is by simply buying a few simple equipment items and look up haunted houses in my area and checking em out. The site I gave you will help you on what it is you may need to start out. My tip for you is to learn all that you can about tech stuff (cameras, video, sound, programing, computers, ect ect.) I wish I had then I wouldn't have to hire a tech guy. Here's the link to help you out and if you ever need any other help I 'd be glad to help you out as well my yahoo IM is my name jus put in the comment box who you might be so I accept the invite good luck. Here's my yahoo group as well. http://www.thebeyond.info/ Broom-Closet-Spells-subscribe@yahoogro... You should get degrees in english, science, and criminal investigation. I say english because you will probably doing a lot of writing on the subject and be published. Science will help you figure out what is going on and why. And criminal investigation will help you investigate the paranormal world. Plus you can fall right into law enforcement if the paranormal world doesn't work out. Edit: Watch the movie "1408"
so you're not looking to make any money from your education....

Here is the procedure. Go to college and stay in until you have obtained a PhD. The field you choose depends on what area of the paranormal you wish to study. For example for UFO's you could choose Meteorology, Atmospheric physics, or Astronomy. For Big Foot and other such creatures Zoology, Biology, or Paleontology. For ESP studies and psychic abilities many people choose Medicine, Psychology, or Anthropology. It also depends on the approach you wish to take to studying your chosen part of the paranormal. Then write your Master's thesis and Doctoral dissertation on something involving your chosen subject matter. Then acquire a teaching or research position at a University and seek funding from multiple sources in order to conduct your research. You may consider joining the Parapsychological Association if you choose to study one the three areas they study. Psiexploration
