How to leave the earth without a rocket?

Might i suggest that you do not have to phsycially leave the earth and is possible to project your consciousness. Would not remote viewing or astral projection acheive these goals if exploration is all that was required and not physically bringing back samples? Jung reported such as this in a near death experience he had when in the hospital as a matter of record,

Well you leave the earth when you jump up in the air, so thats a pretty basic one. You could also use balloons, planes, and helicopters. If you are talking about leaving the earth as to travel to another planet, as in escaping the gravitational field of the earth then you really don't have much choice. Balloons and helicopters are out since they rely on the atmosphere for lift. An airplane could get free of the earths pull if you get enough velocity before you leave the atmosphere. Since planes get lift by creating a vacuum above the wings, they would be useless in space and would require small rockets for steering and braking in space. Escape velocity is 11.2 km/s, which means any device at the surface of the planet has to launch something at that speed in order to get it clear of earths gravity. Explosion driven projectiles are fairly limited in what they can do for speed. A super fast bullet from a super fast rifle might be able to get a little over 2km/s although I have only heard of the fastest ones getting a little under 2, so we have to cross an explosion based drive off the list. A rail gun (an electrical gun), however is capable of much higher velocities than a regular gun. Railguns are currently capable of over 20 km/s, which is plenty of speed. The G-forces of any earth based launching device would be well over the tolerable range for human survival however. However, you could get a drone into space using this method. edit: by the way, Jack Mehoff is way off about being weightless as soon as you leave the atmosphere. Actually the pull of gravity is only a little less at the outer reaches of the atmosphere as it is at the surface. The reason astronauts in orbit appear to float around is because the craft they are in is in freefall.

2 Options: #1 The most energy efficient by far would be to use hydrogen or helium in a stored chamber large enough to make you lighter than the air we live in, which is 75% nitrogen, 16% oxygen and the rest carbon dioxide and other assorted gases (all MUCH heavier than hydrogen and helium). This would allow you to create an air ship, or zepplin, all you would need to due is make it air-tight, life sustaining, resistant to any of the UV rays and radiation thrown around space. This would work great since it would require NO energy to lift, you would simply float up residually the same way Zepplins of the past and present have and do. This would get you to the furthest reaches of the Earth's atmosphere but to actually get outside you would need enough momentum, which without rockets could only be replaced by strong propellers to give you just enough energy to get out, but remember, propeller's are useless without air so you would need A LOT of speed before reaching the outer atmospheres. Once you enter space you could use tanks filled with compressed air to actually push your craft around in space by simply releasing air opposite to the direction you want to go, and you won't need to release much because once your in space your weightless and the smallest push will send anything with flying in another direction. #2 If you don't want that, you could theoretically build a giant sling shot that will launch you and whatever craft you may be in (if you wish to be in one) out into space. This may seem crazy, which it kinda is, but they already use steam powered sling shots used to launch jet's off of aircraft carriers so if you build one about 20 times the size and power it with a brick of uranium you'll probably have enough energy to send yourself into space and keep going after that... The G-forces might hurt a little though...

Death (definitely leaving at this point). Airplane and just ignore the warnings (you'll pass out though), Hot air balloon (but it will extinguish itself before you get too far up). Go for a hang gliding experience or sky dive or para sail or bungee jump if you are looking for a thrill. Take a Trip and have the thought in your head that you'll be surrealistically deployed from Earth, you'll experience it without leaving ground physically. Take a sleeping pill and have the thought in your head as you go to sleep so you dream it.
