https://developer.linkedin.com/documents/people-search-api - this is the documentation for Search API. https://developer.linkedin.com/documents/invitation-api - this is the invitation API based on email address If this does not answer your question, then it's not possible without using ways that LinkedIn does not officially support. Please don't ask me to post those ways as I have no immediate knowledge of them. http://apigee.com/console/linkedin will let you explore LinkedIn API without having to invest into coding an application.

Company Lookup API and Fields The Company Profile API: Retrieves and displays one or more company profiles based on the company ID or universal name. Returns basic company profile data, such as name, website, and industry. Returns handles to additional company content, such as RSS stream and Twitter feed. Now you can learn all about the companies related to the members using your application. So, not only can you display their profile, but also information about their employer (http://bit.ly/findlinkedinprofile this).steps can be found on their page: https://developer-programs.linkedin.com/documents/company-lookup-api-and-fields

Developer AccountTo begin using the APIs, you must first sign-in to LinkedIn using your real LinkedIn account user name and password and then register your Application by clicking https://www.linkedin.com/secure/developer and following the instructions provided thereafter. Both the Application registration and your LinkedIn member account must contain accurate and up-to-date information at all times, including your current title, company, and e-mail address. You agree that we can use, store, and share information submitted by you to LinkedIn in connection with your Application registration as permitted in our Privacy Policy.Access CredentialsOnce you have successfully registered an Application, you will be given Access Credentials for your Application. “Access Credentials” means the necessary security keys, secrets, tokens, and other credentials to access the APIs. The Access Credentials enable us to associate your API activity with your Application and the LinkedIn members using it. All activities that occur using your Access Credentials are your responsibility. Keep them secret. Do not sell, transfer, or sublicense them. Do not try to circumvent them and do not require your members to obtain their own Access Credentials to use your Application (for example, in an attempt to circumvent call limits).Test AccountYou may create up to five LinkedIn test accounts for purposes of testing your Application only. You must create the accounts manually and not via any automated means, such as scripts. These test accounts must not interact with non-test accounts (for example, you can’t use test accounts to comment to posts on a Company Page and you can’t connect test accounts with non-test accounts, including your LinkedIn account), or override our API call limits. You must clearly identify the accounts as test accounts in the applicable account profile, and must identify these additional account profiles as “Developers” in your Application registration. You may not create any profile positions at real companies (besides your own) through the test accounts.API LicenseAs long as you follow these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-assignable, non-transferable license under LinkedIn’s intellectual property rights to use the APIs to develop, test, and support your Application, and to let your customers use your integration of the APIs within your Application.Use similar http://bit.ly/linkedinuserfindread more here: https://developer.linkedin.com/legal/api-terms-of-use

Source: Linkedin (https://developer-programs.linkedin.com/documents/people-search-api )People Search API is a part of our Vetted API Access Program. You must https://help.linkedin.com/app/ask/path/api-dvr and get LinkedIn's approval before using this API. It may not be used for the purposes of database matching, candidate sourcing, or lead generation without an established business relationship with LinkedIn. For information on partnership opportunities, and how to apply, visit our https://developer-programs.linkedin.com/partner. You can never store data returned from the People Search API. Search results may not be stored or offered as aggregated search. All API calls must be made within an active user session. You cannot let multiple people search using the authentication credentials of one person. Each person must authenticate individually. If you have questions, see our https://developer-programs.linkedin.com/documents/linkedin-platform-guidelines for more information. you can read more on their https://developer-programs.linkedin.com/documents/people-search-api about how it works, but you can check https://tr.im/LinkedinAPI also for faster results

I would search the email address in Google. Her LinkedIn profile may come up directly. OR - you can get her full name and other details and then search for her profile in LinkedIn. Alternatively, search n LinkedIn for her company (based on the email) and then look at their list of employees. An email search in LinkedIn will fail if the individual has elected not to make her email address public, hence these other methods are preferable.

LinkedIn with their recent changes in disconnecting the API feed/access/sign in process to many 3rd Party Platforms/Applications is making it more difficult. If the person is using their work email they have given you to login with or added to their profile contact information, there are two ways but they have a 50/50 chance of been successful. 1st way is put their email in to the search box and click search to see if their profile appears. The second way is to use add contacts/invite contacts and if they are a member, sometimes their profile will appear if they are a 2nd or 3rd level connection. Both work sometiems but not all the time - seems that LinkedIn is a bit inconsistant here. Hope this helped

Using a Social CRM like http://data.com or http://InsideView.com will normally bring up a person's profile linked to their email.
