Recycling experiment? anyone?

Does anyone know this ESP plant experiment?

  • A friend told me about an experiment where people sent positive thoughts at a plant to try to make it grow. Does anyone know the name of the experiment or even some links? I'm ...show more

  • Answer:

There is a summary of something related about halfway down the site below (praying for plants)

What is a positive thought? We humans often consider the thought of rain to be negative yet for a plant it ought to be a positive thought. Do i miss something? @Tunsa Checking your source there, on the lettuce seeds treated by a healer. A single study with (at least) three methdological limitations...now that's not much to believe in is it? Credits to them for pointing those limitations out themselves though. --------- Reading the conclusion: "The results of this study suggest that it is possible to take laboratory findings out into the field, and that enhancement by a healer can bring benefit to a farm. The results of this study can be added to those suggestive of psi, but also suggests that under some circumstances the application of intentionality to real world problems may have measurable consequences. More research is needed to determine whether this was an isolated result or a potentially generalizable one. And more research is needed on the practical value of psi in our everyday lives, of where and how it may operate. Thus, the current finding extends the database of intentionality effects on living systems horizontally, but not vertically. It adds to the growing database suggestive of intentionality unexplainable by physical factors or by chance, but we are left to wonder why it occurred, what it means, why it did'nt occur last year, and whether it will occur again. Bringing the laboratory into the field at least has the advantage of providing practical benefit while we struggle with the deeper issues." :) ------------- What does all of this really mean? Lots of words saying very little, nothing substantial if you ask me. "We are left to wonder", yeah that seems to be the aim...not to reach a real conclusion. Would'nt be much left of that text if we applied Occham's razor to it! This is disturbing to me: Should it be true that a healer could enhance the qualities of crops it would be a revolutionary discovery to agriculture all over the world. The experiments that could provide us with indisputable evidence, to whether or not a healer can do this, are easy to construct and conduct - anytime, several times. That's just not being done is it? Why? This is important! Millions of people starve in the world...Why not make new experiments, right now, without the methodological limitations?! It's ridiculous, it's like now we just have to wait and wonder...'til when? Next year? And if it then shows that a the healer can not make plants grow better, we just wait another year and see if we're having any luck then. I suspect that experiments like these need methodological limitations in order to suggest what the experimenters want it to suggest. It seems so. I am sure that in a double blindtest the healer will fail. Added: Yes it was a double blind test, but it was a SINGLE test and in this particular case, with growing plants, there's so many parameters to take into account that method must be perfect and the experiments repeated many times. Some parameters are - genetic dispositions within the seeds (like differences in resistance to diseases, growth rate etc), variations of moisture in air, variations of temperature, local variations in the soil in regards to moisture and temperature and nutrition, the buildings, draft, variations through the day, the procedure of watering the plants, is it done in the exact same manner everytime or is it done differently and what are the differences etc etc. Why make it in such a large scale? It's easy to redo the experiment without the methodiological limitations and it could be repeated in absurdum, anywhere on this planet, anytime where people are growing crops. Why not use say 10 seeds in a small greenhouse, instead? If the healers ability works indoors in a small scale, with potplants for example, hundreds of experiments could easily be done in a year giving solid evidence to whether or not this ability works. Such an experiment would be perfect for James Randi's "Million Dollar Challenge". If the healer succeeds the money could be given to charity or whatever, they don't have to keep it...;) Another thing, if i had that ability i would, for starters, go everywhere i could and show to people and farmers that it works. Many farmers would find this amusing and should it work it would be a great benefit to them and no harm would be done if it did'nt work. Not much work involved either if all that it takes is that i "sway my wand" over a sack of seeds. Should i be able to prove that my ability works would'nt that be amazing?! I could help people and i would surely become rich myself! This reduces the credibility of it - that someone claims to possess "magic" abilites that could help billions of people all over the world but this ability "ends up" being tested anonymously with methodological limitations in a single farm somewhere where the people running it is how biased?

years ago I heard talking to plants in a loving way would help them thrive but I do not know the name of the study, it was also proposed that playing classical music would also help them thrive, now there is one with water here is one of many links about the study of water and positive thoughts http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/901745/study_positive_energy_and_thinking.html http://jrscience.wcp.muohio.edu/nsfall05/labpacketArticles/WhatTypeOfMusicBestStimul.html
