Tips for running a mile in a gym?

What is a good way to get prepared for running a mile?

  • In gym class we have to run a mile in a few weeks. Im not used to running. Any tips on how to get prepared for running a mile?

  • Answer:

Practice. The best thing to do is try to run a little farther each time. Go outside and try to keep a steady pace and run for 15 minutes straight. Make sure you stretch before you run. A mile isn't bad at all and you will be surprised how quickly it goes once you start practicing. If you can get a friend to run with the time will fly as you practice. Good luck with your mile!

You can actually plot out a run at this site, and you can find out what a mile would be in your neighborhood http://www.mapmyrun.com/. After you do that, every other day just get up relatively early and go jog that route. you should be ready by then. also remember to stretch.

Well, it would probably be a wise decision to begin running for practice if you have any spare time. Find a nice jogging trail in your area. It's always smart to stretch out before you run, and of course start drinking plenty of water prior to the run. If you plan to drink any water/some sort of energy drink (Powerade, NOT Monster!) don't go overboard with drinking right before running. The most important thing though is to run a steady pace you can keep (don't try to keep up with your faster friends or stay with your slow ones). And don't worry, It's just a mile, it will be over in no time. If you take it in a light jogging pace it shouldn't take any longer than 10 minutes.

** drink lots of water ** use the restroom if u can before u run the mile ** eat a nice, nutricious breakfast ** pace yourself, dont start off fast or you will be pooped out by the end ** make sure to stretch before you run ** run for about 5-10 minutes everyday (non-stop)

Just go outside a few times a week and run for 10 minutes. Also try stretching everyday just to improve your overall muscle strength and flexibility. Good luck.
