Answer:
Run 3 miles 6 days a week is the best way. When I started out I was horribly slow, but I gradually got in shape. If you run 3 miles a day, even if it takes you 35-40 mins, it will help enormously and put you ahead of tons of other JV runners. Good Luck and have fun! XC is the best sport ever!

I would say that with only two weeks, you should just work on some endurance runs. Try to get out at least 10 times before you start practice. Slowly increase the distance you go run, start at about 3 or 4 miles. Basketball is good cross training, but it sounds like you didn't do the base training. Good luck.

start the first 2 days on the track, 2.5 miles the first day, 3 miles the next day, next 3 days, try running around trails with hills, around 3-4.5 miles, and over the course of the next 9 days, increase mileage or time running. it helps to run barefeet, it works out the lower legs.

basketball is your base training and your lucky to fall back on it. I would suggest running 6 laps on a football/ soccer field jsut to get wamred up. Then stretch. Then go out and run for 2 minutes at a modest pace. Then walk 1/4 lap and sprint the next half lap and repeat that cycle 4-6 times. You may think this excersice builds sprinting which it does but it really builds endurance and your lungs which you need for cross country. Do this series of excersizes 2-3 times a week and then do your long distance running the rest of the week. You only have 2 weeks to get in shape so dont take a day off from training. You can take one day off from training after the intial two weeks and after that one day off a week. You'll be tearing up the competition in no time!

Just jog wherever you have hills. Go up and down (they use different muscles) to get the best workout. Don't push yourself too hard - no need for shinsplints. See what you can do to start out, then try to either add another 5 minutes to your total running time or run the same distance 5 minutes quicker. Take no more than a day rest (unless you get hurt) eat bananas and drink plenty of OJ and water.

hmm. i don't get your question. but cross country really works you out. it works every part of your body including your mind. if your cross country team lifts even better. and if you do basketball you should be good. you should already be in shape.
