Instead of thinking about how nervous you are now, try to picture yourself 4 or 5 years from now. How will you feel knowing you never did something your really wanted to do, just because you didn't have the courage? Like the saying goes, being brave doesn't mean you aren't scared, it just means you do it anyway. You can do it. Very few people never lose a race. You won't be the only one.

Unless your school is totally nutso losing in cross country isn't that big of a deal. If you really want to win then use steroids. And you DIDN'T hear it from me

Just join! You have nothing to lose. I joined XC frosh year and I thought it was ok-once you get to know your teammates, you're usually pretty chill with them. They're just cheer you on during the race and try to motivate you. If it doesn't turn out to what you thought it was going to be, then you can always quit.

just do it. *** the other ppl. just do what you wanna do. if they get on you about losing, say something like well at least i tried. just do it.

Nobody gets in your face about races in cross country. It is one of the more laid back sports in high school compared to basketball, soccer, volleyball. It's more about getting in shape and trying to beat your own time. If your not as great as the experienced people they won't get mad about it. The point is, if you want to run, run. Don't let any doubts cross your mind. You only go through High school once, enjoy the opportunities like sports.

I suggest cross country! Don't worry at all, people won't degrade you if you mess up at first, everyone does in fact. When I joined, the first day we ran four miles and I was WAY out of shape. I finished 3 to last in the first 4 races. After a while, my friends I made encouraged me and I was able to do pretty well. It's good for your body/self esteem and helps with your grades. : ) Plus its a good conversation starter.
