How do you move the ad from the top to the bottom?

Why does the flow of icons in iOS go top left instead of bottom left (or right)?

  • I have three problems here: First, the current behaviour is cumbersome specially when you have a page with few icons.  You have to consistently reach out to the top. Second, it's annoying to arrange apps. Naturally, I put apps that I use frequently on the lower left of the screen for easy thumb access (I'm a lefty). Whenever I add new apps, the top left flow of the apps feels like "moving away" from thumb region. Last, it's even harder to keep the order of the apps. Since the natural flow of the apps is to move top left, whenever I add an app to the bottom leftmost part of the screen, I have to go through each app on the last row to keep the order. And If this ad is any indication, thumb reach is a very important aspect of iPhone's usability.

  • Answer:

The simplest answer is In Western culture, people read from left-to-right, from top-to-bottom. You could anchor icons at the bottom, but that would be contradictory to how people look at screens (or rather, pages of information). I don't think you should read into it much more than that.
