I believe you are asking about Dusshera. It's the festival commemorates the victory of Rama, prince of Ayodhya , over Ravana, the ruler of Lanka who had abducted Rama's wife, Sita Devi.

Dashara is a festival in hindi. What this holiday is about is that an Indian godess killed a demon monster and they celebrate the victory. It is celebrated around the Navratri time. Navratri is another festival here.

I am surprised there is no answer to this Q after so many days! This is a holiday/ festival of the Hindu Indians. I have heard they celebrate in Indonesia too. Dus means 10. Dusserah, as I spell it is the 10th Day Holiday of a festival : 9 days are called Navaratri. 10th Day as I said is Dusserah, where there is victory of good over evil. War went on for 10 days. On the 10th Day, Ravana the Demon King, was killed, and then given a funeral. This funeral is converted into burning effigies of him, his brother and son, who were killed in the battle. It is also Durga Puja or Prayers tp the Goddess Shakti for strength for those 9 days. These are all inter-related. As Rama prayed to the Goddess for Victory for 9 days. After he won over Ravana, he immersed the idol of the Goddess in water. Ending his prayers.This is a part of Dusserah. We usually get Q here related to the Holiday when it occurs.
