Did Real Madrid do the right thing by letting its icons , Raul and Guti leave ?? ....?

I think its a really bad mistake by Real Madrid, because they are trying to spend loads of money on the best players now and there not foccusing on what players got them to be one of the best teams in the world..(Raul and Guti) They are the real madrids fans heros...They might not be the best players at the club but they are the true workers in the team, (I agree) the players witch hold the team together are the teams older more experienced players: like _Liverpool: Carragher and Gerrard_Manchester United: Giggs and Scholes and Ferdinand_Barcelona: Puyol and Xavi_Chelsea: Lampard and Terry.

Definately not...both Raul and Guti are symbolic players for the club, and letting them leave for other European clubs was a mistake. Players like Raul and Guti would have done a great job of promoting soccer in a country like the US, as both are very recognizable and would have helped the image of the sport in a new market. I doubt either can do much to help both Schalke 04 or Besiktas respectively, other than help the young players and bring some leadership.

i think after spain winning the world cup Iker casias has become the icon of Real Madrid aswell as several other stars in that spain world cup winning team edit- plus making the icons through academy is more the style of Barcelona, e.g cesc fabregas, xavi and iniesta whereas Real madrid tend to have the "lets buy our dreamteam"

Sentiment can only really occur in football when a player retires. All because a player is an icon, doesn't mean he is good enough to play for them anymore. If so, Kenny Dalgliesh would still have a playing contract with Liverpool!
