What happens on diwali?

Where is -a nd what happens in diwali?

  • really curious to learn more. thanks

  • Answer:

diwali is a festival celebrated in India and many more parts of the world and is called "the festival of lights". Sikhs, Jains and Hindus celebrate it... all of them having a different purpose. Sikhs like me celebrate it to remember the time when I think it was the 5th or 6th Guru came with 50 rajas (kings) of India from jail (thye hadn't done anything wrong, they were just put in jail). Guru Ji led the way to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab (the heart of Sikhism) and many people were relieved to see them go by. So they lit candles outside and inside the temple to say Thank You to God. Hindus celebrate it because of what happened to Rama, Sita, Ravan and Hanuman. Sorry I can't remember what happened though, you'll have to find that out yourself! So when it's diwali, people take candles to the Gurdwara and Mandir (temples) to say thank you etc. In Sikhism, when it's diwali, all the Sikhs go to the Gurdwara to pray and listen to hyms. They light candles and think of the sacrifices the Gurus made for us. Then we go home to a wonderful punjabi cuisine and have fireworks done all the way up to 11 pm. It's a lot of fun as there are programmes and mela (parties) on the telly. Also, what the first answere said is talking about what the Hindus do. Sikhs don't do Puja, they have another word for praying. Hope I could help!!!!!!
