    TWO DIFFERENT REASONS !!! Hindus celebrate Diwali because supposedly , the hindu god Rama killed demon Ravan and rescued his wife from him and returned back to kingdom ! Sikhs celebrate Bandichod Day ( literally "The captive freeing day") and not Diwali , technically speaking !! On this day , the 6th sikh guru was released along with 52 captive kings from prison . These 2 festivals fall on same day ... Hence .. And BTW , Sikhism and Hinduism are similar religions in the sense Christianity and Islam are !! So , you would expect a bit of similarities here and there ............
