    The number one criteria needed to push your page rank up (there are several criteria, BTW, this is the main one) is backlinks to your site from other websites. The more you have, the more you're considered an authority site and up goes your ranking. You can't just get any old backlinks. You need ones related to your site topic. Why? Google wants to make sure that web surfers like you and me get the best quality search results. Think of it from a web-surfing standpoint. You Google the term "vampires" and get to a vampire site. You click on a link that says "vampire movies". You end up on someone's Twilight Blog. Then you click on a link about Stephanie Meyer and all of a sudden you're led to "Discount Baby Clothes 50% off". You're like, "What? How did I end up here?" Believe it or not, there are people who actually do this just to get more traffic and increase their backlinks. Google says, "Uh...no." And they discredit the backlink because it's not relevant to the theme of the Baby clothes. So think about this when you're trying to gain backlinks. What sites or blogs you can leave useful comments - don't spam the blogs or else they'll stick a no follow code up to keep you from getting credit - that can get your backlinks to your site. The more you have, the more Google considers you an authority and up goes your page rank. It always helps to rub elbows with higher ranked sites. Why do you think most marketers put their articles on Ezine Articles? It's the highest ranking article directory on the internet today. Google ranks it well; therefore, your article with a link to your website will rank highly for a particular keyword, too.

PageRank is one of more than 100 factors Google uses in the ranking of you website and your resulting position on their search engine. You get PageRank (PR) by having backward links from other website pages that have a higher PR rating than your site page the link is to. The PR of your site is updated about once of month when Google updates their database of web pages. For example if you have a backward link from a site that has a PR of 5, some of that PR be will transfered from their website to your website page they linked to. These links are called backlinks.Sites with high PageRank will get crawled by the search engine bots more often, and the crawls will be deeper. While Google takes into consideration the PageRank of your site, high PR doesn't always equate to a higher Search Engine Results Position (SERP). You can have high PR and have a low SERP on a certian keyword phrase, while some other site can have low PR but have a high SERP on the same keyword phrase. For page rank first think that Google observes is the content of website. Your website content should be original, it should not be copied from elsewhere. Blog....It will be crawled by google and that will increase your rank. Also make sure your site is SEO (search engine optimized) friendly with other people linking to your site (having links on yours is not as good as them linking to you, but mutual links are best...making both sides happy).
