What is the best place to view Aurora Borealis from?

Where's the best place to view the Aurora Borealis in Canada?

  • and i live in ontario

  • Answer:

Usually they are better in the territories, the closer you get to the magnetic north pole the better they are. I know that you can sometimes see them in more southern areas (I live in central Alberta, and they are visible maybe two or three times a year), but not as often or as vibrantly as in the northern areas.

northern ontario, bancroft area is good

Resolute Bay and Alert are good places. In the 20 years I lived in Edmonton I only saw them once, when in the country side on a 40 below night. Never saw them at all in 20 years in Vancouver.

The farther north you go, the better they are. However I have seen them as far south as 100km north of the US border (in Western Canada)

I think several good spots would be Dawson City, Yukon Territory or Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Or (harder to get to) Fort Smith, Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk, Iqaluit, Baker Lake, Cape Dorset, Fort McPherson.
