What is causing the pain in my ears/jaw?
-
I have been having moderate to sever pain in my jaw and ear for about 6 weeks now. I have not been to the doctor as I assumed it is just TMJ and they probably can't help anyway. ...show more

Answer:
It may be that you need some teeth pulled next to the jaw muscle. Either that or a root canal and I do not advise that. It sounds a little like early arthritis, I had pain in my temporo-mandibles and it only got better when the dentist extracted my teeth-it only takes two next to the jaw. Ask your dentist, that's probably what it is.

This may not be TMJ at all...I had something that sounds like this 2 times in my life...once was an imacted wisdom tooth when I was about your age and the second was swimmers ear that had gotten so bad the canal closed up when I was 30 the pain was so bad I just cried and cried. Even if it is TMJ there are treatments and medicines to help but please stay away from narcotic type pain killers as I saw a friend of mine get addicted very easily to them for the same problem,,,,try a chiropactor also if you still think it is TMJ because most of them are trained to align the jaw properly ...I found out when my son was hit in the face with a foot ball and developed a loud painful clicking when he chewed...Good luck dear and please get it checked out ...it could be something so simple and you can enjoy life more.

It sounds like it could be an ear infection. Because I have small ear canals, I grew up with ear infections, close to 10 a year. But they do not subside on their own. Whatever causes it: trapped water, clogging wax, hard wax blocking the ear drum... etc. It all hurts. A LOT. As the ear infection continues, the pain basically radiates itself down through the jaw line, and sometimes even into the nasal cavities. From experience, NOTHING seems to ease the pain, without prescription pain killer ear drops. I would really encourage you to visit your doctor. Because if it happens to be an ear infection, you want to get a handle on it before it starts to "break" your eardrum. I'm sorry about your pain, but get it checked soon! Feel much better.

I use to have serve pain in my lower jaw. It hurt to chew, talk, and very sensitive to the cold. Then I got an ear infection in both of my ears. For me it just turned out that I need to remove all my wisdom teeth. They grew in two years earlier just fine well at least I thought so, but there was pressure that build up to pain later on. Did you ever get your wisdom teeth pulled?

Wisdom Teeth problems possibly, thats if you still have them of course. These teeth at the far corners of our jaws put pressure on the rest of the teeth in the mouth, resulting in headaches, jaw aches & similar. Best to have them removed & the pain will go.
I'm not a brain surgeon, BUT GO TO THE DOCTOR!

its conceivable that you have an infection, blood work would help rule that out and if ti is TMJ you may want to think about having surgery on it to fix it.

If it is to the point where you have to change your diet then you need to see a doctor. TMJ is tricky but there are things they can do to help you. You will probably be referred to a specialist for a more in depth look and diagnosis.
