Do painkillers really work or is it all in the mind?
-
I mean would a placebo do the trick for some people? I personally find that painkillers , no matter how strong , do not alleviate pain.

Isn't all pain in the in the mind? What difference does it make if there is pain, but you don't notice it? One class of drugs - amnesiacs - eliminates people's awareness of pain by making people constantly forget their present state. These drugs do nothing to reduce the pain signal, but they somehow block the mental reaction to pain. Amnesiacs are only used during surgery. Other drugs block the transmission of pain through the sensory nerves (which only works on local areas or extremities), and other drugs seem to dull the sensory areas of the brain that respond to pain, or improve mood so that pain is not as noticable. Most of the analgesics and narcotics are this last type of drug, and they are the least effective pain medication.

PAIN,PAIN real PAIN yes pain killers work ,a placedo might work if the person isn't in real pain, and just complaines daily, about this or that. Pain is real, and a placedo will not make it go way.You gave your opinion, but If you had your ankle ran over by a 16 wheeler you might think a little different, then again you might not feel any pain at all. You might not need a pain pill ot pain shot(your mind doesn't believe in them so it might work for you. Pain is real.)
Here Kitty Kitty
I did A level biology, and we have pain recepters in our nerves and pain killers when taken go to and block the pain recepters. So yes they should work if you are taking the right ones hun XX

Pain killers do work. It definitely can depend on what you're taking, the frequency you take it in, and what you're taking it for.
