Why is it that when you accidently bite your tongue, there is a sharp pain all the way up to your ear?

Because there is a major nerve goes from place around the ears and ends in the tongue. That is why you are feeling long pain from your tongue to your ear. Take care next time.

because it really hurts.....and the muscles in your jaw go all the way up to you temple......... you could have a sharp pain in your arm and the real problem is in a neck disc.....it's all pink floyd...man...........

It happens to me a lot.....mostly in my sleep. I sometimes actually cut my tongue. It hurts such a lot because the tongue is close to the brain. The brain alerts the rest of the body to pain. So ...the further away the pain is the more time you can do something about it...like applying heat to a backache....or painkillers. This sounds like total rubbish....I know.

Na doesnt happen to me, but I am sure its nothing to worry about. Everyone is different after all.

Yes, the pain is quite intense. It's due to the sensitivity of the nerves in the tongue. The tongue is a very sensitive organ and all those nerve endings that give is taste, touch and texture also mean that the pain travels all over.

The tongue is actually longer than what you can stick out of your mouth. It goes farther down into your throat, and has billions of nerve endings. Perhaps when you bite, you get a piece of cheek along with the tongue, and the nerve endings hurt into your cheek and ear, Do you do this frequently? Perhaps your jaw needs to be realigned.
