What do you think about IQ tests?

Do you think IQ tests are true?

  • do you think they can determine someone's intelligence?

  • Answer:

Reasoning ability and general intelligence, especially mathematical and spacial vision intelligence. General knowledge, however, is not something that can be determined by an IQ test. And online IQ tests are junk except for the International High-IQ Society's online test. I hope this helps! ;-)

They can in some cases determine someone's intelligence, but sometime some people might have been raised so that they can think in that manner or so that they already know the information on the tests. But if their is a genius in sports, well an IQ test can't really detect that.

Its hardly a question of one's beliefs anymore. IQ tests are true statistically. The 'statistically' part is an important qualifier though. Read "The Bell Curve" by Charles Murray or "A question of intelligence" by Daniel Seligman or "The g factor" by Arthur Jensen

I did the Tickle.com IQ test and got 130 once, but at the time, I didn't know how to figure out those questions like: 6001 4899 1997 703 what's next? So I used to just leave them and go on. Naturally, my mark reflected my lack of knowledge in deciphering that kind of question while at the same time, I could correctly answer other logic questions and received an excellent mark in spatial, linguistic and (this blew my mind) MATH!!! But the freaky number question always brought my mark down. Now that I know how to figure it out (it often has something to do with square roots) I might try the test again. But what about people who haven't read much, or are younger or aren't good at math? Does a low IQ score mean they're stupid? I think not. So, my answer would be - I think IQ tests can determine someone's intelligence if they get a high score ... but if they don't, it doesn't necessarily mean they're a dumbass.

i dont think so. IQ testsare based on logic and speed, not taking into account things like abstract thought. by the standerds set today people like agustin and Hume, some of the most famous thinkers in history probably would have got normal to low IQ due to the fact thay delt in abstact philosophy not logic.

Define intelligence....In general IQ tests are very limited since they often confuse learned/educated or logical with intelligent when speed of thought and other factors come into play.
