Answer:
If you're a male (as I assume you are because of the avatar), I suggest the SAT. All colleges accept it, and it's proven that men tend to do better on the SAT than the ACT because of how the question's are set up and how the male brain works. Although the SAT is slightly more expensive, you can be assured that all your colleges will accept it, and you can take it up to three times. (You can take it more, but people almost always do progressively worse if they take it more than three times.) The college board will combine your best scores from however many SAT tests you take, so they help make you look better. The ACT is just one score, so it might be simpler to understand, but the SAT will show colleges your exact strengths and weaknesses. So even if you suck at math, but you're great at English, colleges will see that. It's harder to determine with the ACT because it isn't laid out like the SAT. Of course, you could always take both and see which one you get a better score on. ^^; Not to mention, if you get free or reduced lunch at school, your SAT or ACT application fees will be waived by the school board. =]

ACT: Most colleges accept it. Not penalized for guessing. More of a problem-solving test than a memory-searching test. SAT: May be penalized for guessing. Less colleges accept it than the ACT. Less problem-solving, more "what happened on the night of July 3, 1776." Take the ACT. It's better.

The tests have different sections and I personally think the ACT is easier (I have taken both). ACT sections are math, english, reading, science, optional writing (you get a separate score for each as well as a composite score, darkwat3rs is incorrect). SAT sections are math, critical reading, writing. ACT pros: no vocab, no penalty for wrong answers, overall shorter test time than SAT, more straightforward questions. ACT cons: science section, most colleges prefer SAT. SAT pros: more established test/well-known SAT cons: minus .25 points for incorrect answers, vocab Of course, it really depends on your own preferences, but I'd say take the ACT first and if you don't like it try the SAT.

The ACT is an achievement test that measures what a student has learned in school. The SAT is more of an aptitude test, testing reasoning and/or verbal abilities. I recommend the SAT because colleges usually care more about SAT scores than ACT scores. It also depends on what college you want to attend some accept both the SAT and the ACT, but some only accept the SAT.

I recommend the ACT.

The ACT is usually required to get into local schools, i know you need it for schools in the midwest where as the SAT is necessary for the bigger schools and ones across the whole country. There's more science and math in the SAT and less in the ACT. If you're only looking for a local college I'd go for the ACT. I only took that one and was able to get into my college of choice. I am not very good with math and science.
