Does reading books make you smarter.?
-
Hi well last year I had reallu bad grades and i'm trying to get straight A's next year and I was wondering if reading makes you smater and boosts your vocabulary? Please help.

Answer:
Reading gives you more knowledge and increases your command of the English language which includes your vocabulary. It will also give you a wealth of examples to refer to while you think which will give your mind a deeper and more meaningful network of information to dig through. HOWEVER, reading arguably can damage your wisdom if you rely too much on external knowledge to think. Overdependence on books and Google will hurt your ability to think for yourself. You need to find a balance. If you aren't using what you read to help yourself dig deeper within than you're probably causing more harm than good.

I'm not sure if it technically raises your IQ, but you can become much more well rounded and expand your vocabulary and use of language, expressions etc if you do read more.

It depends on the book(s). Generally, while it'll raise your reading skills and speed - it's not going to make you smarter unless it's academic related material.

not all books like a picture book wouldn't help but if you you read a novel with good amount of vocabulary it might boost your vocabulary but probably not much.

Reading does help your vocabulary, and also makes you a better writer. Reading exposes you to other worlds and is actually quite a satisfactory activity. Depending on grade and reading level, you can actually choose books to help you with this by slowly reading more complex forms of literature. Writing is an important skill to have for you grades because it will improve the essays of all your classes while the vocabulary will make reading an easy task.

Well, reading gives you a larger vocabulary, helps you read more fluently, and can help with your writing skills as well. So in a way, it does make you "smarter". So keep reading!! :)
