they are very good grades...but apparently they also look for someone who's 'outgoing' and sporty type as well as academic

You're grades are a little lower than the average Oxford student (most people have a mixture of A*s and As) but they're still not bad so you might as well apply anyway. I just want to pick up on two things that some people have commented on here (having been to Oxford I think I should know!): 1. Oxford tutors do NOT only look solely at your A levels. Straight As at A level are important, but these days so many people get As that they will look at your GCSEs too. 2. It is good to have some extra-curricular activities to show that you are a well rounded person, but it is not advisable to have too many in an attempt to make yourself stand out. Oxford is a highly academic institution and tutors tend to look down on extra-curricular activities as they are seen as detracting from your academic studies.

Sorry but Ox bridge want A's and A*'s- good try though! You certainly ave good strengths. Remember that Ox bridge aren't the only unis. Try King's college in London, or others. Good Luck!

If you do A-levels and get similar grades then definitely. My brother didn't get anywhere near as good grades as that for GCSE but got like A-A-B for A-Level and he got into Oxford (Keble college to study Physics). I suppose it depends on what you want to study too but in the interview they were more focusing on who he was rather than his grades. They really want to know whether you would listen and be a good learner rather than how smart you already are. They asked him to work out the distance to the moon using knowledge he had. He said stuff like the earth's circumference is 1/4 the distance to the moon, then he worked out how far to Cyprus was using the time we spent on an aeroplane, and how fast we were approximately going. In the end he was only about 2,000 miles off but relatively to that particular question he was very accurate. Expect things like that at the interview lol =]

To get into University you need A levels, not GCSEs. Once you get A levels, your GCSEs become redundent (other then your C in maths, a science and English)

I would say that it will be more your A-Levels that will effect whether you get into oxford. You need to do well in GCSEs in order to get into good A-Level courses and then gain TOP grades in these A-Levels, maybe taking an extra one or two more than anyone else. Also you should take part in work experience, voluntary work and lots of extra-cirricular activties if you really want to be accepted. You have to stand out from all the others who want to go there too!!!!
Whoknows?
You can never know until you try. Oxbridge entrance is based on much more than academic achievement up to that point, although it is of course important. Extra-curricular activities are a must. Not sure about the BTEC either. But go for it, and if you don't get in, at least you can say you tried. Good luck!
