Answer:
Seeing as how you asked this on the Homeschooling question area, a lot of us would say homeschooling. As for private vs public I have no clue because I homeschool.

There's no way to evaluate schools based on just what type of school. Check out the public and private schools in your area and get a feel for the social and academic climate. Which feels better? For you AND for your kids? Would they be better off homeschooling with you? No one system is best for everyone--if that were the case, there would only be one choice of programs and schools.

If my choices were only public or private I would go into debt to send them to private. But sense this is the home school section I know its not my only choice so we chose home school all the way! Edit: FYI for bug in Louisiana the public school kids are in uniform from Knidergarten through high school in all parishes except St tammany. That is the only parish where the kids are allowed to where what they want in HIgh School

It really depends on the school. There are great public and great private schools - one isn't inherently any better than the other. It also depends on the student. Some kids really like the added structure and electives that a really good private school can offer, while others will prefer to stay in public school. My son was previously in a private school, and he really enjoyed it. When we moved from CA to OK we were unable to find a school that could meet his needs, so now we homeschool. I guess my point is that there is no one answer to that question - you just need to research your options and do what is best for your child. Good luck :-)

There is a lot to be said for private schools. Generally the education is better but the equipment isn't always there. Such as labs for chemistry or physics. But, when I went to private school in the 5th grade (that's age 11) we learned Spanish (in public school that was 9th grade or age 15) and the previous year (4th) they had learned French.

It depends on the private school. Most public schools will have the same problems no matter wher eyou go. Too much one-size-fits-all attitude. Honestly, I'd homeschool, but if you can afford it...private schools are sometimes okay alternatives.
