What is homeschool like?

I home school my kids and it is definitely a lot less stressful. You can still meet people at church, community center, neighborhood, home school groups, your local gym or just anywhere that people go. You probably won't keep in touch with your school friends much, because you won't see them as much and you'll have less in common. You will form new friendships.

Home school is the best of the best. It really is the best solution for education. You get a better quality education, it takes less time, and you're free from government control. Home schooling is the best decision I've ever made. I sure wish I started home schooling a long time ago.

I Love it, Last year I was in a local homeschool program, they had nothing to do w/ the Govornment, so I didnt have to take the HSAP graduatee SAT or ACT. Now I do Provost Academy Online High School, which is w/ the gov. so I have to take state test, but I do get a free laptop, print/scaner, etc to go along w/ it. I have the school on my time, instead of being on their. It can also help you to graduate early if you want.

I did michigan virtual highschool for a semester and i hated it not that there was anything wrong with the program i just hated being at home all the time and commiting your self to 7 hours a day that i would normally get inschool plus the time i would spend on homework was just not something i wanted to do you can talk to your classmates kinda its alot harder to keep intouch with people because you cant relate with them on teachers, homework, tests, school gossip blah you miss out on ALOT. I was WAY more stressed out by online school but im just not disiplined enough for the time i would have to spend sittin on the computer doing school work but google michigan virtual school its the best program if your going to do homeschool

The answer varies greatly from one family to another. Homeschooling is what you and your family make it be, since you are the ones in charge of it. Like a lot of homeschooling families, we are involved with a few homeschool support groups. Through those, we meet lots of other homeschoolers, hang out at the park, go on field trips, do occasional crafts or classes, etc. Lots of places in our area offer programs or classes geared to homeschoolers--dance classes, martial arts classes, museums and zoos offer a wide variety of classes and events. We find it much less stressful than school because we set our own pace. We don't have a lot of our time wasted in class, so we can do our work and move on. If things get too stressful, we can look at our schedule and decide to change how we are doing things. (People who use online or correspondence schools probably have more stress than other homeschoolers, since someone else still sets deadlines and such for them, so it does depend a lot on how you decide to homeschool.) Our local homeschool support group has clubs that grownups (or even some kids) have started--such as the Green Club that does things about recycling and nature, clubs for playing certain games like Bokugan or Chess, and they are even starting an acting club. They also put on dances such as sock-hops and a prom. They have a variety of other events. But that is up to the people in a support group and what they are interested in doing.... Good luck.
