Can I homeschool my kids?

I don't have any kids yet, but when I do, I don't want them to go to public school. Is there a way that I, myself, can homeschool them? Is there a process I would have to go ...show more

Answer:
"Of course you can!" That was my 9yo daughter's response to seeing your question. :) You would need to know the laws where you live (which may change by the time you have kids and they are school age). The process will depend on the laws--in some places, there's nothing you need to do; in others, you need to register, follow specific subject content, have the kids do tests at the end of the year... There's usually nothing more complicated than that.

Absolutely, and you're making an excellent choice. (I was homeschooled, and no, I'm not socially traumatized) There is probably a local homeschooling support group close to where you live, who can get you more information on that, and also about any laws that apply in your area. Also, you can go to sites like this: http://www.youcanhomeschool.org/ They have all the information you'll need to get started. Best of luck!

Absolutely you can homeschool! It is perfectly legal in all 50 states. There is a welath of information and support on the Internet so begin by going to a great comprehensive website like www.LearningByGrace.org and you will find thousands of articles on homeschooling.

yes, you definitely can. talk to your state's board of education to find out how. by the way, not to change your mind or anything, but a lot of times, homeschool kids don't develop social skills since they're not around other kids as much. so just make sure that you have your kid join clubs, play groups, YMCA, etc.

Yes! You can homeschool your children! I homeschool my kids and we all love it! There are several great books out there including "Homeschooling Your Kids for Free." You do need to go through your state's department of education and be approved. We have found homeschooling so rewarding! My children are thriving and thoroughly enjoy this experience and the flexibility of the schedule. Many parents (and kids) worry about the social skills that kids supposedly learn in school. This is largely a myth now days. In our city, we have several organizations for homeschooling parents and kids. They have regular get togethers, meetings, teen nights, teen and kid activities and regular field trips. My homeschooled kids get tons of social interaction through that venue alone. However, we also are active in our church and attend the youth activities. We also meet people at various activities that we attend through our homeschooling. We attend lectures, and go to many local events. Last Saturday we attended LSU's Veternary School's open house. It was fascinating and the kids not only asked tons of questions and collected a lot of information, they also met several other homeschooled kids. Homeschooling is what you make of it. If you choose to homeschool your kids you can go online and search for websites for homeschooling organizations in your area. It is an experience that you will not regret.

No one can stop you. You might have to fill out some paperwork, but other than that you should be fine.

sure, anybody can. If you don't have the minimum requirements you might have to take a class or something like that, but if you have a college degree, you've more than likely satisfied the requirements. We homeschool our daughters and we're glad we don't have them exposed to the trash in today's schools.

The public schools being what they are these days, I don't blame yoyu for wanting to homeschool. And yes, you can homeschool your child. You just have to look online for a homeschool program that you like and they will sent you the books and information needed to homeschool your child. You send the work back to them and they grade it and return it. It's just like a real school without your child having to go threw the danger in public schools these days. One piecs of advice I feel the need to give you, being a homeschooled student myself, if you are going to home school the child, at least make sure he/she has a life out side of the house b.c it can be depressing only having what you do at home. B.c, although most kids hate school, they'd hate it even more to have no friends to talk to and not after school activites such as sports or band or something like that. Just let your child have sports and stuff like that too.
